7.4 Community Badges & Verifications
In a decentralized world, identity is shaped not only by what a user does but also by the communities that recognize and trust them. Proofile expands on this idea through its Community Badges & Verifications feature—a system that allows DAOs, NFT projects, protocols, and trusted entities to issue verified, non-transferrable badges to users who meet specific on-chain or off-chain criteria.
These badges act as identity credentials, reputation markers, and access keys—all tied immutably to a user’s Proofile.
🏅 What Are Community Badges?
Community badges are soulbound tokens (SBTs) or semi-permissioned NFTs that are non-transferable and proof-based. They can only be issued:
By verified issuers (DAOs, protocols, guilds)
To users who complete specific tasks, reach milestones, or pass validations
Examples include:
"Core Contributor – Aave DAO"
"Top 5% NFT Trader – LooksRare"
"KYC Verified – zkPass Protocol"
"Smart Contract Auditor – Immunefi"
These badges become visible on the user’s Proofile and serve as trust signals, performance credentials, and access triggers.
🔍 Verification Mechanisms
To ensure credibility, badges may be issued via:
On-chain proofs: Based on verifiable blockchain activity (e.g., voted on 10+ governance proposals)
Off-chain attestations: Verified by decentralized identity providers using zero-knowledge proofs or verified credentials
DAO votes: Collective recognition of a contributor by governance decision
These multiple paths to verification ensure flexibility without compromising trust.
🌐 Use Cases
Protocol Access: Only users with certain badges can access beta features, governance tiers, or liquidity boosts.
DAO Elections: Only verified DAO members with contributor badges are eligible for election or leadership.
Community Rewards: NFTs, tokens, or merch drops can be distributed only to badge holders.
Cross-Platform Identity: Other dApps and games can query badge status to personalize experiences or grant access.
🛡️ Anti-Sybil & Fraud Protection
Non-transferable: Badges are tied permanently to a user’s Proofile and cannot be sold, traded, or farmed.
Auditable: All issuance and validation actions are publicly recorded on-chain.
Revocable (Optional): Some badges can be flagged or removed by issuers if criteria are violated, ensuring badge ecosystems remain clean.
With Community Badges, Proofile creates a rich ecosystem of social, technical, and reputation credentials, empowering users to build a multi-dimensional identity—verified not by one authority, but by the collective trust of the Web3 community.
